Burkholderia mallei SAVP1
This is a phenotypic avirulent strain. It was obtained overseas from a natural infection (severity probably mild) and was tested on Plum Island in ponies where it produced seroconversion but no acute disease nor significant pathology at autopsy. This was after a challenge with high dose (greater than 109cfu). Biochemical and antibiotic sensitivities and resistances are available.
